Independent co-delivery of model actives with different degrees of hydrophilicity from oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions stabilised by solid lipid particles via a Pickering mechanism: a-proof-of-principle study

The development of vehicles for the co-encapsulation actives with diverse characteristics and their subsequent controllable co-delivery is gaining increasing research interest. Predominantly centred around pharmaceutical applications, majority such approaches have been focusing on solid formulations less so liquid-based systems. Simple emulsions can be designed to offer a microstructural platform compartmentalised multi-delivery actives. In this work, lipid nanoparticle stabilised Pickering were used co-encapsulation/co-delivery two model different degrees hydrophilicity. Lipid particles containing hydrophobic active prepared in presence either Tween 20 or whey protein isolate, then stabilise water-in-oil oil-in-water emulsions, secondary within dispersed phase. Solid nanoparticles type emulsifier able provide stable emulsions. Release kinetic data fitting revealed that profiles achieved by controlling surface properties nanoparticles. current proof-of-principle study presents preliminary confirm potential approach utilised as flexible segregated independent co-release combinations actives, hydrophobic/hydrophilic hydrophobic/hydrophobic, release profiles.
